Vier international renommierte Künstler und ein querdenkender Architekt reflektieren in ihren Werken das Thema "Zeit". Bill Viola, der bekannte amerikanische Künstler, lässt mit seinen extremen Slow-Motion-Bildern Raum und Zeit nahezu vergessen. Der Film zeigt das Video "Going Forth By Day" aus dem New Yorker Guggenheim Museum, in dem Viola fesselnde Bilder für den Zyklus des Lebens, der Geburt, des Todes und der Wiedergeburt findet. Shirin Neshat, Iranerin, die seit 1974 in New York wohnt, lebt in der Spannung zwischen zwei Kulturen. Christian Boltanski arbeitet mit alten Fotos und Fundstücken. Er schreibt in seinen Installationen die kollektive Geschichte verschwundener Menschen. Sein Versuch, die Zeit zu bewahren, scheitert an der Unmöglichkeit, die Zeit, wie sie war, zurückzuholen.
