Stills is a leading Australian gallery with a focus on contemporary photography and multimedia art. The gallery represents both emerging and established artists from Australia and overseas, with a long history of fostering those who work at the forefront of contemporary photomedia practice.
Stills artists are frequently represented in major national and international exhibitions and festivals. Trent Parke, Australia's only full member of Magnum photo agency has a wide international following, exhibiting recently at Foam Fotografiemuseum, Amsterdam, as well as having solo and group shows in Russia, UK, US, Poland, France and Bangladesh. Ricky Maynard and Anne Noble are currently exhibiting as part of Photoquai Festival, Paris. Stills' links in Asia are also strong, with an upcoming exhibition showcasing Polixeni Papapetrou in Tokyo and recent exhibitions by Petrina Hicks and Michael Riley in Japan. Stills regularly collaborates with institutions worldwide on touring exhibitions, including Petrina Hicks in NY C Photo, showing first in New York in 2007.
Established in 1991, the gallery is based in a converted warehouse located in Sydney's main gallery precinct. There is a large exhibition space and a print room holding an extensive collection of works. Stills organises artist talks throughout the year to promote discussion and understanding of the exhibited work.
A member of the Australian Commercial Gallery Association (ACGA) Stills Gallery advises private and corporate collectors on all aspects of starting or maintaining a contemporary photography collection.
